End an Event Early

In some cases, you may need to end your event earlier than expected. For instance, if an event is canceled because of weather or a public speaker talks for less time than expected. Whether you’re broadcasting to the web, social media, or a physical location, here’s how you can end your event early.

Stop Your Encoder from Studio

If you would like to stop broadcasting to all destinations at once, like in case of an emergency, you can manually stop your encoder from the Schedule. Learn more.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Encoders.
  2. Click Stop next to the encoder.
  3. In the modal that appears, click Stop.
  4. Wait for your encoder to change from the Started status to the Stopped status.

At this point, your content will stop encoding. This will cause your broadcast to stop for all destinations. 


Stop All Web Broadcasts from Media

If you started a web video that is currently broadcasting, you can stop it from your Media. Remember that using the Stop button will cease broadcasting to all destinations the video is being streamed on.

  1. Navigate to your Media > Web Videos
  2. Hover over the web video you want to stop and click the actions icon image6.png > Stop.Screen_Shot_2023-01-24_at_12.18.45_PM.png
  3. In the modal that appears, confirm you want to stop the video.
  4. Your web video will now be stopped, denoted by the stopped tag image7.png.

Stop a Single Web Broadcast from the Schedule Page

If you would like to stop a broadcast to a single web or social media destination, you can do so from the Schedule tab.

  1. Navigate to the Schedule page in Studio.
  2. Find the current broadcast you want to stop.
  3. Click the title to view the event details page.

  5. Select the destinations you want to stop broadcasting to

Stop a Broadcast to Facebook or YouTube

  1. Navigate to the Schedule page in Studio.
  2. Find the current broadcast you want to stop.
  3. Click the title to view the event details page.

  5. Select the social media destinations you want to stop broadcasting to.

Stop a Multisite Broadcast from the Decoder

When broadcasting to a multisite location, you can easily stop your event from the decoder interface. Navigate to the buttons at the bottom of the interface and click pause to stop playback.

If you would like the event to end sooner than the encoder’s end time, create a cue at the end of the event in Studio, and use the interface to navigate to the end cue (Learn more). You can also stop playback of a current event by switching to a new event. Learn more.
