Add Delay to a Web Channel

  • Updated

By default, scheduling in Resi includes a 90-second delay to buffer and provide a resilient stream for your broadcast. In rare cases, users may want to increase the latency, or time from when your encoder captures data and it becomes available to your audience.

Adding this extra delay is intended for Resi users who have limited internet connections that prevent them from streaming normally with Resi. The steps below introduce a stream delay in live events at the web channel level, which only impacts the embedded web player and Stream URL destinations. Social destinations are not affected by Stream Delay and will not gain the benefit of an additional buffer. The delay is not reflected in the Studio scheduler–you will have to keep track of your delay and account for it when you schedule events.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Web Channels.
  2. Select the web channel you want to add the delay to.
  3. Click the edit icon.

  1. Drag the Stream Delay slider or manually type the delay amount into the text box. The stream delay has a minimum of 1 minute 30 seconds (Studio's default) and a maximum of 10 minutes.

  1. Click Save. Using this web channel will now delay the embedded player and stream URLs by the time you selected.
