Troubleshoot Issues With YouTube

  • Updated

Here’s how to troubleshoot some of the most common errors Resi users encounter when streaming to YouTube.

Please bear in mind that if your event does not automatically restart after you perform any of the following steps, you should pause and unpause the event:

  1. Navigate to the Schedule page.
  2. Click your event.
  3. In the event details page, click the edit icon Edit_icon.png
  4. In the Details section, toggle Pause Event on.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Toggle Pause Event off.
  7. Click Save.

YouTube occasionally sends out inaccurate streaming health reports. In most cases, if there is no noticeable drop in your broadcast’s quality, you can ignore these reports. If there is any noticeable buffering or change in broadcast quality, ensure your network and physical connections are secure, as described in our articles on Add a Hardware Encoder and Add a Decoder (if streaming to a multi-site venue). If this or any other problem persists, contact Resi support.

If viewers notice diminished video or audio quality on YouTube, make sure they know they can manually adjust the resolution using the settings gear in the bottom-right corner. YouTube defaults to automatically selecting resolution based on viewers' hardware and internet bandwidth.

If you edit a scheduled event in Facebook or YouTube, you may experience errors with that destination.  Both Facebook and YouTube update their product regularly, which could affect your scheduled events if you try to edit them through the social media websites or applications. If you need to edit the title or description of your event, we recommend doing so through Studio.

Transcoder Error

Transcoder errors sometimes occur due to a misconfiguration of an encoder or encoder profile. On some occasions, pausing and restarting your event resolves the issue.

Check Your Encoder Configuration

  1. Navigate to your Encoders page in Studio.
  2. Click the actions icon image2.png next to the encoder associated with your stream to YouTube.
  3. Select View Details.
  4. In the Encoder Details page, click the edit icon Edit_icon.png.
  5. Make any required changes. Make sure to confirm you have the correct video input source selected.
  6. Click Save.

Check Your Encoder Preset

  1. Navigate to your Encoder Presets page in Studio.
  2. If necessary, click to expand the encoder preset associated with your stream to YouTube.
  3. Click the edit icon Edit_icon.png.
  4. Make any required changes.
  • Confirm that the resolution matches between your source and destination.
  • Make sure that your input matches the resolution and scantype of your incoming video feed.
  • If your encoder output is set to send an interlaced signal, confirm that your web preset is configured to de-interlace.
  • Confirm that the audio and video channel bitrates are at or below your recommended bandwidth usage. (Toggle Advanced Settings to see your bandwidth recommendation.)
  • Confirm the codec is set to H264.
  • Click Save.

  • Pause and Restart Your Event

    1. Navigate to the Schedule page. (Go there)
    2. Click your event.
    3. In the event details page, click the edit icon Edit_icon.png.
    4. In the Details section, toggle Pause Event on.
    5. Click Save.
    6. Toggle Pause Event off.
    7. Click Save.

    Partner Error

Partner errors are often due to the YouTube account linked to Resi being temporarily blocked from live streaming, Resi being unable to connect to YouTube because of a password change, or less than 24 hours have passed since enabling live streaming on a YouTube channel.

These can typically be resolved by reauthorizing the Resi-YouTube connection.

    Reauthorize Resi for Youtube

    1. In Studio, navigate to the Social Media page.
    2. Click the actions icon image2.png beside the account showing the error.
    3. Select Grant Access.
    4. Sign in with your YouTube credentials.

Note: If you are redirected back to Studio without a successful authorization, try again from an incognito window, or sign out of Studio and all YouTube accounts and sign back in.

    1. Select the option to allow Resi access to manage your YouTube Account.
    2. In Youtube, navigate to your channel, then check your live streaming permissions by clicking View your Channel Settings > Channel Status and Features > Live Streaming.
    3. If not currently enabled, select Enable.

Confirm You’re Using the Correct Account

In Studio, confirm that the correct YouTube account is associated with Resi.

    1. Navigate to your Social Media page in Studio.
    2. Click the YouTube icon beside your channel.
    3. A new tab will open to the linked channel. Confirm this is the correct one.

    Pause and Restart Your Event

    1. Navigate to the Schedule page.
    2. Click your event.
    3. In the event details page, click the edit icon Edit_icon.png.
    4. In the Details section, toggle Pause Event on.
    5. Click Save.
    6. Toggle Pause Event back to off.
    7. Click Save.

    Title Length Error

When you give an event a title in Studio, you can enter up to 125 characters. However, YouTube only allows uploaded videos to use 100 characters or less. If you create an event with a YouTube destination with more than 100 characters, Studio will truncate the title to 97 characters and an ellipses (...).

The Resi User Group on Facebook is a great place to connect and interact with other Resi users. You may be able to find additional help and information by posting your questions there. Please note, it is not monitored by Resi's support team and they will not answer inquiries on social media.
