Some Resi hardware encoders have two power supply modules. Each power supply module has enough capacity for your encoder to operate from a single power source in the case of a power outage. Resi recommends each power supply be plugged into separate circuits, at least one of which should have a battery backup.
Power Outage Scenarios
In the case of a power outage and based on your setup, one of the following scenarios may occur:
- No battery backup - If both of your power supplies lose power while your encoder is powered on, your encoder will shut off immediately.
- One battery backup - If only one of your power supplies is plugged into a redundant power solution (UPS) and your encoder is powered on, an alarm will sound from your encoder’s unpowered power module. You can either plug that module’s power cable into a powered circuit or reset the alarm. If your remaining power supply loses power, your encoder will shut off immediately.
- Dual battery backup - If both power supplies are plugged into a redundant power solution (UPS) and your encoder is powered on, your encoder will not sound an alarm (although you may hear alarms from your UPS). Your UPS capacity will determine the remaining run-time of your equipment.
Silence the Power Alarm
In order to silence the power alarm, you must have access to the back of your encoder.
- Identify which power module has lost power (this is indicated by a red light near the IEC connection).
- Press the red light in to turn off the alarm.
- Resolve the power source issue or wait for power to return.
