Player Profiles

  • Updated

The Resi web player allows you to customize how your content is viewed and played back. A player profile is a setting in Studio that allows you to easily customize your player and save that configuration to be used with other web broadcasts in the future. For example, the Background Mode profile, which has been pre-configured for your convenience, can be used to continuously run video footage with no audio on a webpage, such as for a hero banner.

Add a Player Profile

If you have a web streaming plan, you can take the following steps to create a new player profile:

  1. Navigating to Settings > Player Profiles.
  2. Click “Add Profile” in the top right.player_profiles_tab.png
  3. Give your profile a name and description.
  4. Click the toggle icon in order to enable or disable various parameters.
  5. Preview what your player will look like by clicking “Preview Player Profile”.
  6. Once you have configured your profile, click Save.

You should now be able to see the profile in the list of Player Profiles.

Player Profile Options

You will need to decide which player configurations you would like to enable or disable. If you are not familiar with how these toggles work, take a moment to go over the available player profile options.

Video options

From here, you can control the playback behavior for your broadcast. When disabled, these video and audio options will be controlled by your user. When these options are enabled:

  • Autoplay video - video will attempt to automatically start playing when the link or embedded web page containing your video is opened. Autoplay behavior is still subject to browser rules and restrictions. For more information regarding autoplay behavior, please see Google Chrome’s developer documentation.
  • Loop video - on-demand videos and playlists will automatically start over once the content ends, or the last video in the playlist finishes. This does not apply to live content.
  • Mute audio - audio for your broadcast will be muted by default. Users can still unmute the content.

Control options

These options allow you to decide the level of control you want a viewer to have for a certain video. When disabled, control options will be set to the default for the player (playback buttons, volume control, and scrub bar will be available to your viewers). When enabled, you can:

  • Restrict playback when live - the video scrub bar, play/pause button, skip buttons, and playback speed controls are unavailable. Users will still see a center play button to start the video if the video does not autoplay.
  • Show call to action button - viewers will see a custom CTA button that will open a link of your choosing.

As of [date], CTA buttons are no longer associated with web channels. You will need to manually recreate any existing CTA buttons using a player profile.

Player preview

Clicking on the Player Preview button will open a window that shows how your selected options will look to a viewer. By clicking on the drop-down menu, you can select whether your preview player is an On-demand video, Live video, or playlist.
